The Apostolic Church, Uyo Field, has been plunged into crisis following the refusal of the present Area Superintendent, Apostle Ime George to exit his seat since the expiration of his tenure in October, 2023.
In an exclusive interview with some leaders of the church, some Pastors who refused their name mentioned for fear of victimisation, recalled that Apostle George was first elected Field Superintendent in October 2015 and was reelected for the second term according to the constitution of the church.
The clerics revealed that Pastor George’s tenure expired in October 2023, and based on the constitution of The Apostolic Church, he should have stepped down and called for an election, a development they said might not happen anytime soon.
The leaders of the church also alleged that throughout Apostle George’s two term superintendency, no executive meeting was held , as there were no minutes to prove otherwise.
The clerics cited marginalization and neglect of Pastors from Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai Local Government Areas as another act alleged to have been committed by him.
They recalled that Apostle George had once ordered that non-indigenes of Uyo Local Government Area who were serving at The Apostolic Church, 69 Oron Road, Uyo, should leave the church to their respective places of origin.
“Since the present Field Superintendent, Apostle George, came on board in October 2015, Pastors and Apostles from Nsit Atai and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Areas have been marginalized and neglected in his leadership.
“ For peace and glory of God to have course in The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Uyo Field, Apostle George must step down, in accordance with the provisions in the constitution of The Apostolic Church.
“Pastor George has brought in tribal sentiments into the church. He once pronounced that all non-indigenes of Uyo in The Apostolic Church, 69 Oron Road, Uyo, should leave the church and go to their villages.”
On why Apostolic Church in Akwa Ibom State used the constitution for conduct of Church activities and election before Apostle George’s emergence, a cleric from Ikot Ekpene field refused to comment on this.
However, additional information gathered from another in -house source who pleaded anonymity revealed that the church has resorted to using national constitution as a result of the suspension of the constitution used hitherto by the state.
In view of this, it was disclosed, the tenure of Apostle George cannot be said to have elapsed, not up until the lifting of the suspension of the constitution of the state, or a directive from the national body of the church.
He refuted that the church was not going through any crisis arising from an alleged tenure elongation or from any other issue, and therefore, advised the public to disregard people who want to pull down the church.
The source further disclosed that The Apostolic Church had recently created another Field comprising of Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas, an indication that the church was not into any crisis as was alleged.
Meanwhile, effort to speak with Apostle Ime George were not abortive as he could not be reached before the story was published.
