The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rep Unyime Idem, has condemned alleged plots to install interim government in the country.
This condemnation followed a motion of urgent public importance he sponsored on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday April 4, 2023.
Rep Idem, while moving his motion, noted that on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, the State Security Service issued a warning on some individuals who are allegedly plotting to install an interim government in Nigeria.
“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, part 1, section 132, allows for change of leadership through the ballots and the constitution allows for a four year tenure of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after each election cycle” Idem said.

“Interim government is undemocratic, unconstitutional, and unknown to our laws as a court of competent jurisdiction had in time past so declare. if the plots are allowed to see the light of the day, it will result in anarchy, with a prize many generations after us will continue to pay for” Idem concluded.
Rising in defense of the motion, the House of Representatives unanimously condemned in strong terms the call for an interim government, mandated the security agencies to be on alert to avoid possible breakdown of law and order. The House also warned aggrieved parties to desist from heating up the polity but should rather have faith in the rule of law, and await the outcome of the election litigation in court.
