In a bid to ensure that peace, justice and equity prevail at the grassroots level, the people of Ward 11, Ukanafun Local Government Area have agreed to maintain the age long zoning system among the two political bloc that constitute the ward.
Arising from the recent stakeholders meeting held at the country home of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ward leader, Mr Census Ekpu, which was attended by representatives of all political parties in the State, the people of the ward, agreed to zone the next councilorship position to Zone B and that the political unit that has not taken its turn, to do so.
The decision, our correspondent gathered, came through a motion moved by a former councilor and leader of Ukanafun Legislative Assembly, Elder Elijah Akpan, and supported by Mr Monday Asuquo Akpan and was adopted by the entire stakeholders in attendance.

Speaking shortly before moving the motion, Elder Elijah Akpan said that the meeting was timely as according to him “will ensure that the peace enjoyed in the ward through zoning of the office is maintained”.
He particularly noted that Ikot Obong/Ikot Iwara unit has never produced a councilor or any elective position in the history of the ward, thus, the need to zone the councilorship position to the unit.
Elder Akpan, thanked the stakeholders for coming together in the spirit of yuletide and as well take an important decision.
Also speaking, Mr Akanimo Udofia noted with happiness that zoning system has been one of the major essence of peace in the ward, thus, the need to maintain it.
Earlier, the PDP leader of the ward, Mr Census Ekpu, expressed happiness for the gathering, especially the attendance of members of other political parties which he said, showed the unity, peace and brotherhood among members of the ward.
He noted that the meeting would be yearly as it would provide the opportunity to review the progress and development in the ward as well as chat new course to attract more development.
Ekpu, who is a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy as well as Petroleum Resources during the administration of former Governor Godswill Akpabio, particularly commended youths of the ward for maintaining peace. He, however, challenged the youths rise up and make good use of every available opportunity and do something that will benefit them positively in the nearest future.
He expressed optimism that the next administration will favor the ward and charged members of the ward devoid of political association to always think of the interest of the ward first.
Others who also spoke at the meeting, commended the stakeholders for coming together to chat a new course for the ward.
