Akwa Ibom state students in public secondary schools who took 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination(WASSCE) have not been able to access their result over alleged indebtedness of the state government to the examination body, West African Examination Council, WAEC.
Some graduands who spoke with The Crest, noted that once they opened the portal, their results would not display rather what will show is “indebted.”
One graduands who simply gave her name as Iniobong said she was disappointed and wondered why government did not direct parents to pay for the exams instead of frustrating them.
“I am seriously disturbed. None of my former classmates who took the exams with me has been able to access the results. I cannot put the pin again until I have the confirmation because I do not have the money to buy another card.” She said.
The West African Examinations Council, Nigeria, had on Friday August 8, released reviewed results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, for school candidates, following the discovery of grading discrepancies that significantly affected candidates’ performance statistics.
In a press briefing the council’s national office in Yaba, Lagos, the Head of WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, admitted to a serious error in the marking of serialised papers, which led to a misrepresentation of candidates’ performance.
Dangut reminded all that candidates sponsored by indebted state governments would not have access to their results until the council receives payment.
“We appeal to the concerned authorities to do the needful to enable affected schools and candidates to access their results,” he urged.
Meanwhile, effort to speak with the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh was abortive as he did not pick his call or responded to message drop on his voice mail which he directed as at the time of filing this report.
