Healthy Life Development Initiative, a nonprofit organization, has organized capacity-building training on environmental pollution for women and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
The sensitization programme, supported by Global GreenGrants Fund was held on 21st November, 2023 in Umuechem and Abara communities, Etche Local Government Area in Rivers State.
The Sensitization sessions at the two communities were anchored by a medical personnel, Maria Edem, Coordinator of Healthy Life Development Initiative (HELDi) Mfon Utin and their team members, Cynthia Okereke and Christina Dibie who brought down the discussion to their native dialect.
Speaking on the essence of the sensitization, the coordinator Healthy Life Development Initiative, Dr. Mfon Utin noted that the event was to create awareness on environment pollution, impacts and adaptation process.
She warned the women against using calcium carbide or any other chemical for preserving of food.

She noted that for them to stay healthy, they must eat good food, take clean water, go for medical check up and embrace free medical s whenever they have opportunity and shun practices inimical to their health.
The highpoint of the sensitization was the declaration of fight against environmental pollution by women and PWDs from the two communities.
Meanwhile, Umuechem and Abara communities, Etche Local Government Area in Rivers State are ravaged in pollution caused by the exploration activities of international oil companies.
Most affected by the exploration activities in these communities are women, children and PWDs which www the reason the NGO undertook the awareness campaign.
