Ibom Hall, IBB Avenue, Uyo, on Saturday, was ago as Akan Emah, a former Rotarian of Rotary International District 9142 was installed as the 7th Governor of the District. He is now DG Akan Emah.
DG Emah is to lead the affairs of the District which comprises Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Anambra, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi, for a period of one year.
According to his citation, DG Emah had served in many clubs and District Committees in the then District 9140 and presently 9142. He is the Vice President of Rotary District 9141 and 9242 Alumni Association. He is a Charter member and former President of Rotary Club, Uyo Metropolis ( 2014/2015) where won Presidential citation and named the 3rd best President in the District.
The citation also revealed that the District 9142 Governor joined Rotary’s interact club while in secondary school. This, it was noted, makes him one of the very few privileged persons to have passed through all the three stages Rotary’s youth leadership programmes to become an Interractor, Rotract and Rotarian.
Speaking shortly after his installation, the 7th Governor of Rotary International District 9142, DG Akan Emah, appreciated God for the possibilities that surrounded his early beginning in the Rotary Club up to his ascension and subsequent installation as a District Governor.
He said it could not have been a smooth sail in all his years in the club, but for God’s grace, support from his family, friends and tenacity in striving to serve humanity through Rotary Club.
Governor Emah therefore, pledged to continue to uphold the highest integrity of Rotary International and its objectives, while upscaling efforts so far made in contributing to the growth and development of mankind by all Interractors, Rottracts Rotarians, DGs, PAGs, and others.
The chairman of the occasion and the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, urged Rotaracts, Rotarians and others ranking members of Rotary International District 9142 not to relent in their bid to give succour to humanity through various programmes of the club.
The immediate past Rivers State Governor, represented by Prof. Ahmed, expressed the hope that the tenure of the 7th Governor of District 9142, DG Emah would bring more gains to the society.
The installation ceremony also witnessed presentation of Paul Harris Fellows Awards to some distinguished Nigerians who have served and are still serving humanity in their chosen fields of endeavour. They include; Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe; National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo; Prof. Okon Ansa; Medical Director of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ememabasi Bassey; Member, representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Moses Essien, among others.
Earlier, there was a procession by all the seven states that were present, with each carrying its flags. This was followed by the reading of the code of conduct, as well as the first, second third and fourth objectives of Rotary International.
There were cultural displays and presentation by children to depict the beauties of the different cultures of the host state, Akwa Ibom.
Dignitaries who graced the installation ceremony were; Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, the immediate past member representing Etinsn/Nsit Ubium/ Nsit Ibom Federal Constituency; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong; Bishop Blessing Bassey; Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok; past and present governors of Rotary International, among others.
