The people, ballot and the umbrella party written by Enwono-Abasi Elisha
The public is weary of the whip of lies from seekers of public office. More scared is that they seem to forget their manifestoes as soon as they get into office.
The dramatic display in the Nigerian context makes Nigerians have rich-source for cartoons, commentaries and skits. The social-media spaces are awashed, sadly, with the humour of the pains of these failures.
The scars left, make political propaganda difficult to be sold today. It like a rote! The over flogged line of how they will bring positive change once they get into office makes a common man ponder if they will be scammed again.
Howbeit, the people seek the type of leadership that will transcend to meaningful living in the rural areas and city alike. They don’t need harum-scarum political office holders who kneel for votes but despise same voters when power is released into their hands.
“God forbid!”
That was the chorused response of women in a crowd where a speaker rhetorically questioned what will become Nigeria’s fate if “Nigeria can afford to make mistake with the choice of the next set of leaders in 2023.”
These summed up the masses’ mind on the quality of decision they will take as 2023 elections are fast approaching.

In Akwa Ibom State, more on demand are discerning leaders, who do not just see or hear the agony of the people but feels and spurred into forming actionable models that will affect the common man positively.
That is why, the people are not just paying attention to tales of the season. But how will this be achieved? Are they actionable plans?
How will the lofty entrepreneurial ideas of the youth be boosted and given the right environment to thrive?
How will a market woman into petty trade be encouraged to stay in business in a shaky economy?
Many questions are to be answered by the next crop of leaders who will take over public offices.
The expectations are high!
As the sensitivity of the masses are sharpened, leaders are to pay most attention to the lofty projects and programs that will spread dividends of democracy.
No wonder, in Akwa Ibom State, the PDP, despite the drama, the suspense in the Country, seems to be the only political party with a track record of consistency with the people. The peoples’ confession is the way they keep the people close through the respective leaders even when improvement is needed in this aspect.
And you can’t blame the people not to know which Political Party that has brought some level of succour which they are experiencing in the area of road infrastructure, health, education, social amenities, economic empowerment, etc. The Political Party who has been in tab with them. Even the illiterate market woman selling salt, knows when last she saw a face of a public office older and of which political party.
Of course, you can’t gag these ruralites in any opportunity to say their truth. Testimonies of who gave them the road they plight to market or the portable water in their community will suffice their political decisions in the coming year.
So, for any political party to wake up only during election period to seek masses’ votes with sham gestures then fizzle out afterwards, is a worry of how they will win votes, especially in Akwa Ibom State. The poor masses and the illiterate market women are not ashamed to tell to your face that the last time they saw any favour from a public office holder was in her unit during women’s meeting and they will tell you the Political Party without fear.
Go and check the records!
These people are tired of lies. You only come to run away. You see Politics as opening for business.
To be frank. In comparing terms, PDP has a face the people recognises and they can mention the names of their leaders in Akwa Ibom State. The few changes in their communities, they boldly tell you is PDP that makes it possible.
Is the ruling party you say. But to stay relevant and recognized is a choice.
This is why the people’s expectations become higher on the next set of PDP leaders. To bring the desired change as there seem to be no other hope for them in this clime than PDP.

On high demand are genuine policies and programs that will advance the masses’ lives.
Until there is a Political Party which is able to live up in marks of PDP and even better in Akwa Ibom State, the People draws closer to which they recognised. And the recognised (PDP) seem not to lose guard anytime soon in Akwa Ibom State with more work which is translated in the level of campaigns to the local communities.
They have not retreated or down the tools with the vain hope of being the Party in power. They work!
The people hope they work-the-work more as they take over various offices after 2023 elections.
