The Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Revenue Service (AKIRS), Sir. Okon Okon has predicted a boom in the revenue sector as he declared that the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, for 2024 is likely to surpass set target. The chairman attributed “impressive growth” in revenue generation to what he described as significant governance reforms by the State Government, improvement in corporate governance, and operational processes by the Board and the business-enabling environment created by the administration of Governor Umo Eno. Youth Alive Foundation Africa (YAF), a non-profit organization committed to youth empowerment and gender equality, has called on government and non-state actors to change social norms that limit women’s participation, inclusion in politics and governance. YAF, through Women in Politics Akwa Ibom (WIPA) project, also advocated for legislative amendments to strengthen the enforcement of gender laws in the country. Not less than three persons have been feared dead following accident that happened around Etim Ekpo round about as the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Akwa Ibom Command, Mr Edward Odiete, has cautioned drivers in the state against reckless driving in the state.
