Captain Augustine Okon, the Director-General , Peter Obi Campaign Council in Akwa Ibom State has said the people of the state have lost trust in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, adding that the commission lacks credibility to conduct free and fair election.
Captain Okon based his accusation on what he described as brazen connivance between the INEC and the agents of the PDP, who he said intimidated, bullied , maimed and forcefully abducted adhoc staff of INEC and ended up presenting results outside people’s wish during the 25th March election.
Addressing newsmen in Uyo last week Friday, Augustine Okon recalled that prior to the election, the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, had promised Nigerians that all units’ results will be uploaded to the IReV portal through the BVAS.

The Director-General explained that without any notification or explanation, INEC proceeded to manually collate and announce the so called election results, which he said did not only give room for suspicion but suppress the will of the people and impose an unpopular candidate on Nigerians through a flawed process.
“We are aware of the desperation of certain persons to win at all costs which led to deaths and injuries to many Akwa Ibom citizens. We pray for the repose of their Souls.
“The PCC Akwa Ibom State demands that INEC should come out clean of this daylight robbery and produce the original results which clearly show HE Peter Obi winning the election with a significant majority of the total votes and having the required constitutional spread. PETER OBI should therefore be declared, the duly elected President of Nigeria.
“That desperate politicians, who betray the trust of the people, should remember that a day will come when the people will remind them that they are holding offices in trust for the people.
“That Akwa Ibom people nay Nigerians have lost trust in the INEC as presently constituted hence this INEC lacks the credibility, integrity and honesty to conduct any free and fair election in the future.
“The Office of the President, Governor and any political office is so sacred that those seeking to occupy such offices should not just come clean but must emerge from credible and fair processes.”
Captain Okon vowed that the campaign council will push till they get justice.
Also speaking on behalf of Coalition, Bernard Titus urged members of Labour Party not to involve in vices capable of denting the image of Peter Obi.
He revealed that many votes that belonged to the Labour Party were cancelled in many polling units within the state.
Also speaking on behalf of Civil Society in Akwa Ibom, Comrade Ifod Ifod expressed displeasure on INEC for knowingly robbing Nigerian citizens of their right.
According to him, “the results of election in Akwa Ibom State were seriously doctored.”
