Recent happenings in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have forced sane indigenes of the area, particularly those who are development oriented, to wonder what sin the local government committed to earn some bad eggs as indigenes.
While other local governments of the state are blessed with indigenes and leaders who labour day and night to see their local government and their people grow and develop in all aspects, Ika is inflicted with some greedy, desperate and self acclaimed leaders who don’t care about development of Ika owing to the fact that they don’t live in Ika. Etim Ekpo as a local government like Ika is blessed with Bar. Emmanuel Enoidem (SAN), who is kin about development of Etim Ekpo and his people. Obot Akara as a local government like Ika is lucky to have Sir Monday Ebong Uko who has been a blessing to his people. Ikot Abasi local government is enjoying the benefit of having Engr. Uwem Okoko as their son. In all of these, we have never heard Enoidem wants his Chairman to be removed and replaced with his brother or son, we have never heard Sir Monday Ebong Uko wants his Local Government Chairman removed and replaced with his brother or son, we have never heard Uwem Okoko struggle to stop his people from growing politically or otherwise. Most importantly, we have never heard them runaway with money meant for the people of their local government. We have never heard them desert their local government only to be coming during election to struggle and runaway with election money meant for the people of their local government. But unfortunately, the reverse is the case in Ika with the Nwokos.
It’s a despicable thing that Instead of joining hands with reasonable stakeholders of Ika to build a formidable political structure ahead of the next election which, obviously, will be a tough fight considering the muscles so far gathered by the opposition, the Nwokos is engaging in a greedy and desperate campaign to become family heads, village heads, councilors, supervisors, Vice Chairman, Chairman, Commissioner, Party officers, fathers of faith – all by themselves,. Their dream is to turn Ika to a case or ‘government of the Nwokos, by the Nwokos and for the Nwokos’. In their mischievous mind, there’s nothing like ‘live, let’s live’. It is only out of unspeakable greed, desperation, selfishness that a family that has been everything in the time past will go about sponsoring attacks,
begging, blackmailing, lobbying and campaigning for a sitting Chairman of their local government to be removed and replaced with them. One wonders how they keep their face and mouth to tell anyone that their Executive Chairman should be removed from office and replace with them. Not that they have any track record, not that they have the needed experience to run a Local Government Council, not that they have the acceptability of Ika people, not that they ever meant well for Ika Local Government, but just to have a title to use for government events and public outings.

Evidently, the easiest way to know how empty and unintelligent they are is their backward thinking and false imagination that Governor Umo Eno, an ordained minister of God with sound leadership prowess and fatherly disposition will remove a sitting Chairman and replace them simply because they want it so. One could simply pause reading this and spend few seconds to imagine someone sitting before Governor Umo Eno or any other sane person within the State government to say “I want to be the Chairman of Ika, remove the sitting Chairman and put me or my brother.” What a disappointing embarrassment!
Anyone be it in Ika or outside Ika that will take anyone with such mindset serious is helplessly deceived and brainwashed by no one else other than the ‘I Wana be’ Nwokos who always only remember that they are from Ika Local Government whenever the food is ready and then will come to say the grace among themselves in one voice. Governor Umo Eno will never join or approve such evil agenda.
