The national leadership of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE has honoured Governor Umo Eno with the Local Government Friendly Award. The award was conferred on the governor at the 8th Quadrennial State Delegate Conference held last Wednesday at Ibom Hall Uyo.
Presenting the award, the national president of NULGE Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji, thanked the governor for the support he has given to NULGE in the state and expressed the gratitude of the national leadership of NULGE to the governor whom he said has given priority to workers’ welfare at the local government level in the state. Comrade Ambali Olatunji assured the governor that local government workers in the state will continue to work with him in the implementation of his Arise Agenda blueprint in the state.
Responding, Governor Umo Eno, appreciated the leadership of NULGE for the support they have given to him at the grassroots in the implementation of his Arise Agenda. Governor Eno, who was presented at the event by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Rt. Hon. Frank Archibong, assured them of his readiness to work with the various elected council chairmen across the state to ensure that the impact of good governance is felt at the grassroots.
Earlier at 8th Quadrennial conference of NULGE Akwa Ibom State Chapter, the delegates drawn from various local government leadership structures in the state re-elected Comrade Anestina Iweh as the Akwa Ibom State President of NULGE. The election had three contenders for the office of the state president with Comrade Mfon Usoro, Comrade Innocent Effiong Akpan and Comrade Anestina Iweh as the contenders. At the end of the exercise, Comrade Anestina Iweh emerged as the winner with 241 votes seconded by Comrade Innocent Effiong Akpan who scored 41 votes while Comrade Mfon Usoro scored zero vote.

In her speech, Comrade Anestina Iweh thanked the delegates for the confidence they reposed on her to return her for a second term. She recalled that on her assumption of office in 2021 for her first term, the state chapter of the union had many issues to address which she was able to sail through with the support of members. Comrade Iweh, in her acceptance speech captioned: ‘It can only get better ‘ assured them of a stronger and people -oriented leadership as she assumes office to lead the union for a second term.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the chairman of ALGON Dr. Uwemedimo Udo who is also the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, described local government workers as the interpreters of the message of good governance at the grassroots. He promised that the newly elected council chairmen in various local government areas in the state will prioritize workers welfare in their policies and programmes.
