In a bit to reposition the party for exploits, ward chairmen, chapter officials and critical stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nsit Atai LGA, have unanimously adopted Dr. John Harry as the political leader of the party.
The event took place on Friday, 8th May, 2025 at Odot, the local government headquarters in the presence of party supporters and well wishers.
Dr. John Harry is a former Commissioner for Youth and Sports and was later transferred to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources during Godswill Akpabio’s regime. He was also appointed by President Buhari as member, Governing Board of Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and marine Research ( NIOMR) between 2008 and 2022. John Harry is also a former member, Board of Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology ( FCFMT).
Harryman as he is fondly called by friends and admirers is a youth- friendly leader known for his humility and intelligence. He is an ardent supporter of Chief Godswill Akpabio and a grounded party man.
Over the years, Dr. Harry has committed his resources to building the party and making sure that it’s popularity remains at the crescendo.
His journey to party leadership began when he and other stakeholders of the party started using their personal resources to assist members and sustain the party structure, especially during festive periods. This was to make the party faithfuls feel loved and cared for.
The people gradually saw him as an epitome of quality leadership and a father figure which they have finally proved by adopting him as their leader.
The chairman of all the ward chairmen in Nsit Atai, Mr. Henry Tom who is also the chairman of Eastern Nsit Ward 4, on behalf of other ward chairmen, reeled out the long story of Dr. Harry’s benevolence to party faithfuls over the year and concluded by handing him over to the Chapter Secretary, Mr. Etim for final pronouncement on behalf of the entire Chapter exco.
The chapter youth leader of the party, Comrade George Ibia said Dr. John Harry is the type of leader that would not only breath life into the party, but would help mould it into election winning mechanism.
Ibia added that, with Dr. Harry as their leader, all the Elders and opinion leaders would work as a team as he is gifted in carrying people along .
Ibia assured the people of the support of the youth in attaining greater height.
Also speaking during the epoch making event were stakeholders including Engineer Emem Ekpe who described the new party leader as a successful man that will lead a successful party and guarantee electoral victories in the local government and beyond.
In his word, ‘ I thank God this day for giving us not just a leader but a trusted and tested leader who will lead the party to victorious outings both within the local government and beyond ‘
Emem Ekpe reiterated.
Another critical stakeholder, Mr. Uwem Evans added that since Dr. Harry has worked diligently with the Senate President as one of his commissioners when the Senate President was Governor, they still have a relationship that will synergize to give the party a facelift in the local government.
So far, goodwill messages have been pouring in. A notable one is that of the Deputy Chapter Chairman, Mr. Anietie Sunday who described Dr. Harry as a man with uncommon wisdom.
According to him, Dr. Harry has never engaged any member of the party in a fight directly or indirectly, rather, he has taken time to nurture the party and make it standard to the point that people are now proud to identify with it.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. John Harry thanked the people for recognizing his efforts in building the party
He appreciated elders and stakeholders for their resilience over the years and promised to use his new position to propagate the lofty ideas of the party and make it the biggest and the best political party in Akwa Ibom state and Nigeria.
He also thanked the President of the Nigerian Senate, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio for influencing the appointment of several sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom state into position of authority and also appointing his personal aides across the state thus proving to world that he is a detribalized leader.
Dr. Harry used the occasion to appeal to all party faithful to stand firm and preach the gospel of President Tinubu’s reform that is gradually taking the nation to the promised land.
He urged the people to always pray for the Senate President and ask God to hide him from the sight of his haters. Harry promised to discharge his duties diligently.
