Dr. Dorathy Thompson, Chairman Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM) has urged Akwa Ibom people to come out enmasse to elect leaders of their choice on Saturday 18.
Speaking with newsmen at EARCOM office in Uyo, Dr. Thompson described Akwa Ibom as a peaceful state, and called on all residents to turn out to vote for candidates of their choice.
“let’s us engage in our civil responsibility of choosing who to lead us, that will continue with the giant strides and progress so far made in Akwa Ibom State. The greater and better future of Akwa Ibom State is in the hands of every voter.
“We must not encourage heating up of the polity, indiscipline or any behavioural conduct that could hinder the smooth and successful conduct of the election because the end result could truncate the entire process.
“I want to salute INEC, security operatives, political parties, candidates and electorates for the orderly and credible conduct of the previous February Presidential and National Assembly elections.”
Dr. Thompson particularly commended Akwa Ibom people for the orderly and peaceful conduct displayed during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections held across respective polling Units of the State and urged them exhibit same maturity in the coming elections.
She appealed to citizens that pockets of crisis in the last election should not deter them from coming out on Saturday to vote for their candidates.
She expressed hope in INEC to conduct another round of free and fair election.
She recalled that EARCOM, with its 16 points charter, has engaged in aggressive sensitization campaign awareness, voters education, media advocacy, sensitization campaign awareness to churches, schools, riverine areas and town hall meetings.
She took the opportunity to thank Governor Udom Emmanuel for his politics of Inclusiveness, and well as creating the conducive atmosphere for all political parties to freely campaign, and for maintaining peace in the State.
