Itu Legislative Council orders LG Chairman to tender financial statements
In what appears to be a subtle move to checkmate the excesses of the Local Government Chairman, Barr. Etetim Onuk, Councillors in Itu have ordered the Chairman to render account before the Legislative Council.
The motion was moved on Thursday, by Hon Samuel Udok Iwatt, Councilor representing Mbiabo/Ayadehe Ward 3.
The councillor who based his motion on Section 28:1(c) of the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Administration Laws, 2007 which stipulates that the function and power of a legislative Council shall be “examining and debating the monthly Statements of Income and Expenditure tendered to it by the Chairman of the Local Government”, noted that since the inception of 7th Itu Legislative Council on 9th December , 2021, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk, has failed to render the monthly statements of income and expenditure as required by the law.
In his motion, the councillor mandated the executive Chairman of Itu LGA, Rt.Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk, to tender the previous (December 2020 to July 2021) Statements of income and expenditure to the 7th Itu Legislative Council;
He called the House to order the Executive Chairman of Itu LGA to appear at the plenary of 7th Itu Legislative Council to explain the circumstances behind the non submission of the income of expenditure Statements to law makers for the said period.
Samuel Iwatt said henceforth , the Executive Chairman of Itu LGA should b caused to comply with the provision of section 28:1(c) of Akwa Ibom Stat Local Government Administration Laws, 2017.
Reacting to the motion, the Leader of Itu Legislative Council Hon. Favour Ekong Uyire said the motion was prompted by their desire to serve their constituents better.
The Crest gathered that there was no opposition to the motion.
