The Chairman, Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA) Dr. Iniobong Essien has maintained that the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State runs a people oriented Government considering his life touching projects and compassionate stance towards the people .
Dr. Essien made this assertion when he met with media professionals in Uyo recently.
In his words ” Our dear Governor is the will of God for our state at this time. He is a compassionate leader who does not react to the plight of the people lackadaisically. That is why his supporters are growing by the day. Even those who opposed him during the election have now turned to support him”
The Chairman of VAIA, further encapsulated the significance of the Governor’s compassion through his recent visit to the bereaved family of the late Make up artist who met her untimely death in the course of duty.
The late artist, Abigail Frederick 24, was laid to rest in her hometown in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government.
She died some days ago along with five film practitioners, including Junior Pope, when their boat capsized in the River Niger.
The state governor Umo Eno, who had earlier visited the family over the weekend had directed that her remains which had been buried by the bank of River Niger be exhumed and returned for proper burial in the state.
” By visiting and give such directives as regards the corpse of the late lady, it shows that he is truly a Man of Compassion. Not just that, following him conscientiously, one will really appreciate and love him more. He has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Managing Director of Emem and Sons also announcing some relief for the family” he said
While answering questions on the State of the airport that he superintends, Dr Essien, mentioned that the MRO which is a major investment is still under construction , he thanked the Governor for injecting funds towards the completion of the project. ” His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno is a proactive leader. The MRO when completed will generate jobs and revenue. Airplanes will be coming in for maintenance and we will have more traffic in our airport . It will stimulate our economy when completed ” he asserted
Essien, when probed further on any other avenues the state can realise money from the airport said that the management is in discussion with prospective investors in diverse areas like having other airlines in operations at the airport, building of airport hotel which will be at a great convenience to business men and many more.
” With all these and more, I strongly believe that Governor Umo Eno is the best at this time to lead us” he surmised.
