The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Mrs Edumma Enobong Essien , has strongly reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to driving development in its host communities, Essien Udim, and across Akwa Ibom State through knowledge sharing, skills development, and economic empowerment.
She made the affirmation during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Council, Hon. Ntiedo Usoro, at the Council Secretariat in Afaha Ikot Ebak.
Mrs Essien commended the Council Chairman for providing effective leadership, particularly in maintaining peace and security in the area, which she described as critical to the smooth academic activities of the polytechnic. She said the management team visited to formally brief the Chairman on the steady progress of the institution and to deepen collaboration between the polytechnic and the local government for the overall growth of the host communities.

The Rector announced that the polytechnic has secured full accreditation for 21 academic programmes and approval for 14 skill-based courses. She stressed that the institution is focused on producing graduates who are not only certificate holders but also skilled, innovative, and self-reliant contributors to the economy. She appealed for sustained support from the local government, especially in promoting peace and sponsoring youths from the area to benefit from the polytechnic’s skills training programmes with internationally recognised certification.
In his response, Hon. Ntiedo Usoro applauded the Rector and her management for their vision and commitment to the development of the polytechnic. He praised the foresight of Senator Godswill Akpabio in facilitating the establishment of the institution in Essien Udim and expressed satisfaction that the polytechnic is living up to its mandate.
The Chairman pledged the Council’s full support and partnership with the institution, while calling on the management to uphold fairness and justice in the distribution of opportunities to sustain peace and goodwill. The visit climaxed with the presentation of “Polysoft tissue paper,” a product of the polytechnic, to the Council Chairman.
