It is therefore fitting that Mrs. Eduma Enobong Essien, a woman of valour, wits and wisdom, steps forward in her full glory and deservingly receive with aplomb, these panegyrics and plaudits as she clocks one year on the seat as the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana.
Unassuming yet result-driven, Mrs. Essien has brought her A-game to the table. She has overseen the day-to-day running of the Polytechnic since coming on board as Rector with the grace that is indescribably awesome. For whatever she has set her mind on for the growth and betterment of the Polytechnic, she has done so with vigour and extraordinary dedication.
Under her visionary watch, the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana has experienced growth in many areas that are not limited to securing accreditation for fresh academic programmes, infrastructure development, entrepreneurial drive and lots more.
For, Mrs. Eduma Essien, what ought to be done should be done well without cutting corners. She doesn’t settle for less. Excellence runs through her bloodstream; and the domino effect of this has positively affected the institution in ways that are truly awe-inspiring.
For clarity, she has within her period of stewardship, secured the accreditation of 21 new academic programmes, established a tissue paper production line, furniture production line, invested heavily in human capacity development for staff, embarked aggressively on visible infrastructural development, given a push to skills-backed certificates and more.
Mrs. Essien has demonstrated genuine interest in students’ welfare, taking it upon herself to ensure that beyond providing a safe, serene and secure environment for them, their welfare and well-being have become an item of priority to her. Suffice it to say that she has been not just a Rector but a caring mother to all.
Her peaceful disposition makes her deserving of the appellation of an apostle of unity and peace. Her devotion and quest for peace, unity and oneness among staff members and students stand as enduring testaments to her drive for an academic environment that is devoid of acrimony, restiveness and other vices.

As she marks her one year anniversary in the saddle, one is fired up with optimism that the years ahead will be remarkably beautiful for the Polytechnic because she has set it on the right pedestal, built beneficial bridges and entrenched a culture of discipline and pursuit of excellence with undying passion and devotion that pave a clear path for the institution.
