The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared two medical doctors in its employ wanted for failing to return to their duties after being sponsored for training by the state government.
The medical doctors are; Dr. Uduakabasi Ita, Consultant Radiologist, and Dr. Mfonobong George Bassey, Consultant Hematologist, both staff of the Ministry of Health.
Declaring them wanted at a press conference on Monday September 15 in Uyo, the Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, said it was sad that the state government could expend its resources for eight years to train doctors, but failed to have those doctors returned to the hospitals with the acquired knowledge to improve service delivery.
He said given the unacceptable behaviour of some of the doctors trained by the government, the Ministry had become stricter in ensuring that all trained doctors resume at their duty posts in state civil service, or made to refund resources expended on their training.
Dr. John also added that henceforth, all medical officers trained by the state government must serve and complete the number of years they were out for training before they could be allowed to resign or abscond.
The Commissioner warned that government would no longer allow it trained doctors abscond abroad without the people benefitting from the expertise they acquired during training.
The Commissioner for Health however reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the health sector in the state offers improved services to Akwa Ibom people.
