The Akwa Ibom Audit Service Commission Holds 2024 Pre-Promotion Seminar for Auditors in the Offices of the Auditors – General for State, and that of the Local Governments.
The pre – promotion Seminar which is the third in the series was held at the Multi – Purpose Hall, General Services Office, Governors Office Annex, Willington Bassey Way, Uyo.

Declaring the seminar open the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, said the policy of having to take examinations before promotion is to refresh, test, and broaden the knowledge of Auditors to meet the emerging challenges in the discharge of their duties.
He said the capacity building in the areas of computer literacy, professional competency and leadership for Civil Servants are in the priority list of Governor Umo Eno – led administration, and therefore called on the Audit Service Commission to ensure the training and retraining of Auditors on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), to bring them up to speed with the digitization of the Public Service in line with the Arise Agenda.
Essien thanked the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his determination for his improved welfare for workers as demonstrated in the approval for the hosting of the promotion process for Auditors, including other welfare packages and most recently, the payment of Twenty Thousand Naira, each, to all Civil Servants in the State.
The Head of Civil Service appreciated the Audit Service Commission led by the Chairman, Pastor Umoh Bassey, for it’s excellent performance in its statutory responsibilities.
He encouraged the participants to participate in the discussions and presentations during the seminar.
Earlier in his address the Chairman Audit Service Commission Pastor Bassey Umo thanked the state Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, approving the conduct of the 2024 Promotion for Auditors in the Offices of the Auditors General for State, and Local Governments and other welfare packages been enjoyed by civil servants across the state since his assumption of office about a year ago.
He explained that the Akwa Ibom State Audit Service Commission was established by law in 2021 with primary functions which include; Formulation and implementation of audit guidelines, advising the State Government on policy issues relating to audit matters, advising the Governor on the need to provide welfare for Audit Staff, Implementation of ethics and code of conduct for Auditors employed in the Public Service, Implementation of government policies on audit matters, transfer and confirmation of appointments of persons employed by the Commission also dismissal and exercising disciplinary control over such persons holding or acting in such offices, performing such other duties and functions as are necessary for the discharge of its functions under the Audit Law.
According to the Chairman, the Seminar which is in line with its functions serves as a refresher course intended to update the knowledge and sharpens the skills of Auditors to do their work with diligence, dignity and integrity.
Umo commended the Commissioners and the entire management and staff of the Commission for the consistency and commitment to the actualization of its assigned mandate.
He further informed participants that the seminar will be followed by the examination slated for Thursday, 18th July, 2024 at Aka Community Model School, and Oral Interview on 25th and 26th July, 2024 at the Audit Service Commission Office, Uyo.
Goodwill messages were received from the guest of honour, Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Linus Nkan, who was represted by his Permanent Secretary, Mr Mark Umoh, State Auditor General/ Permanent Secretary, Elder Isaiah Ntekim, Local Government Auditor General/ Permanent Secretary, Mr. Emaeyak Akpan and the Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh, represented by Barr. Asuquo Selong Edem.
