Councillor donates village hall to community

Leader of Abak Legislative Council and Councillor representing Abak Urban Ward II, Hon. Queen Sandra Bassey has donated a newly built Village Hall to her community of Manta.

Speaking during the commissioning and handing over of the Village Hall, Hon. Bassey said the gesture was her modest effort in giving back to her community and signposting a physical living legacy.

Bassey, who is the first female Leader of Council in Abak, in her speech expressed thanks to her family for standing by her to see to the completion of the project. Sandra equally reserved words of praise for the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and his wife, Martha, for their roles in ensuring greater opportunity for women inclusiveness in political governance.

She particularly noted that the State First Lady was an inspiration to her and to millions of other Akwa Ibom women.

Hon. Bassey called on her Manta community to secure the edifice and make judicious use of it.

Cutting the tapes to commissioning and open doors of the Village Hall, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong lauded the Hon. Bassey for her impressive representation, noting that she has greatly changed the narrative in grassroots governance.

Speakers at the commissioning including the traditional institution, community leaders and chieftains lavished praises on ‘their daughter’ for being a shinning light in the area and pledged to protect the facility.

Part of the high points of the day was the giving out of yuletide packages to women and families in Manta and presentation of an award to the visiting Honourable Commissioner.
